Dr. Andrea Veljkovic is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia. She is currently the University of British Columbia Orthopaedic Fellowship Director, Fellowship Director of Lower Extremity Joint Preservation, and Department Head of Orthopaedics at St. Paul’s Hospital.
She serves as the Associate Editor for JBJS Essential Surgical Techniques.
She served as the former Fellowship Director for the Adult Foot and Ankle Reconstruction Fellowship program at University of British Columbia and former Research Director of the UBC Orthopaedics training program.
Dr. Veljkovic has been in full time academic subspecialty surgical practice for more than fifteen years. Her particular interests are in joint preservation and lower extremity sport injuries and arthroscopy. She maintains a sport knee and sport foot and ankle affiliation with the UBC varsity sport teams having formerly been the consulting surgeon for the Toronto Football Club, National Ballet of Canada and University of Toronto Varsity Sports Teams. Her particular interests are in cutting edge surgical techniques, realignment procedures, and biologics interventions joint preservation of the knee, foot and ankle through the use of minimally invasive techniques.
She has been active in charity work for over 20 years, beginning prior to her medical career. Her medical charity involvement started with Team Broken Earth, first as participant and eventually as team lead of orthopaedic education and treatment missions in Haiti over 5 years. Since then, she has been a participant and team lead with Steps2Walk, a non-for-profit organization focused on correcting disabling foot and ankle conditions and educating local health care providers in disadvantaged countries. She has served on the Medical Advisory Board of Steps2Walk and have since founded her own non-for-profit organization delivering foot and ankle and sports knee specialty care and education to the Balkan region.

Dr. Veljkovic has a strong background in quality care, research and education. Her training includes a Masters in Public Health from Harvard and a Diploma in the Scholarship of Education and Learning from UBC. She is and has been a member of multiple UBC Orthopaedic Department committees. She is the current Associate Editor for JBJS Surgical Techniques, an active international lecturer, surgical skills instructor focused on arthroscopy and recognized teacher
Dr. Veljkovic has received numerous awards for teaching and education, including the University of British Columbia and University of Toronto Teaching Awards, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine Mentorship Award, And University of British Columbia Orthopaedics Research Award. She was also awarded the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Woman’s Leadership Award. She was the recipient of two prestigious orthopaedic travelling fellowship awards from the Canadian and American Orthopaedic Associations: ASG and CFBS. She has published over 100 scientific papers and has lectured extensively with over 600 invited talks nationally and internationally. Recently, her research was nominated as a finalist for the AOFAS Leonard Goldner and Roger Mann Awards.
